Dr. Mason grew up in rural, southern Illinois on a Christmas tree farm. His undergraduate degree was completed at Southern Illinois University where he graduated Cum Laude in Biological Sciences. He then attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine to earn his Medical Degree. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and then went on to complete his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL.

During his medical training, Dr. Mason has presented multiple posters at national and international meetings on a range of disease states, notably for his interest in esophageal motility disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver disease. His most recent publication was on quality standards in colonoscopy in various peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA), the South Carolina Gastroenterology Association (SCGA), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the American College of Gastroenterology, and holds ABIM Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology & Hepatology. He specializes in a wide range of endoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, esophageal manometry and pH testing, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and also non-surgical hemorrhoid banding. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Britney and goldendoodles Charlie and Rosie, as well as playing guitar, kayak fishing, and golf.
